Description

Nature of Work:

Responsible for performing various tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and water distribution system.

Supervision Exercised/Received:

Works under the direct supervision of the Utilities Director.

Employment Schedule: 

Monday- Thursday 6:00am-4:30pm 

Rotating on-call schedule every fifth weekend

Emergency after hour call in for snow removal, resident issues, water system issues

Plant Operations

Operate and monitor treatment processes including wells, pumps, chemical feed systems, filtration, and disinfection 
Perform routine lab sampling and testing (chlorine residual, turbidity, pH, etc.) 
Adjust chemical dosages and system controls to maintain compliance and efficiency 
Maintain accurate operational logs and reports 
Distribution System Oversight (D2)

Monitor system pressures, storage tanks, and distribution flows 
Coordinate flushing programs, valve exercising, and hydrant maintenance 
Assist in leak detection and repair coordination 
Respond to main breaks and emergency system issues 
Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act requirements 
Prepare and submit monthly and annual reports to EGLE 
Maintain sampling schedules and documentation for audits and inspections 
Participate in sanitary surveys and corrective actions 
Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, and treatment equipment 
Troubleshoot SCADA systems and mechanical/electrical issues 
Coordinate with contractors for specialized repairs 

Requirements

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive understanding of all components of a municipal water system and the operation thereof. 
General knowledge of pumps, motors and filter systems. 
Ability to use computers and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to comprehend blueprints.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, peers and citizens. 
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D

4 years of municipal water experience. 

Valid Michigan Driver’s License and CDL B with air brake endorsement. 

D-2 Michigan Water License

Working conditions:

General working conditions are outside. Employees must be willing to work in all weather conditions, including adverse weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

Ability to operate equipment involved in everyday working conditions
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
Ability and working knowledge of how to use hand tools.
