- Water Operator I or II
Description
Operator I
Under the direct supervision of the Water Division Supervisor, Operator I serves in a training capacity, performing a wide range of technical, semi-skilled and routine activities, learning the processes and procedures involved in the operation, repair and maintenance of the City's utility system.
Operator II
Under the direct supervision of the Water Division Supervisor, maintains general shift operations of the water system. Performs and documents daily laboratory analyses on water samples to ensure compliance to required standards. Operations of heavy equipment such as backhoe, mini excavator, loader, skid-steer and dump truck required. Uses of power tools such as tapping machine, drill and gas-powered saw. Implement preventative maintenance and repairs on water distribution system, well equipment, buildings and grounds. Maintains records, analyzes data and prepares related reports.
Requirements
Operator I
Following are the minimum qualifications: a high school diploma or equivalent; completion of successful coursework in mathematics, chemistry and biology; computer literate, or able to rapidly acquire this knowledge; valid Michigan driver's license and be able to travel within the St. Johns area; possess and/or be eligible to obtain Commercial Driver's License within (6) months of employment; participate in random drug-alcohol tests; able to perform heavy lifting; and able to work in extreme weather conditions.
Operator II
Following are the minimum qualifications: Associate's Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; completion of successful coursework in mathematics, chemistry, biology, cross connection and excavation safety; computer literate, or able to rapidly acquire this knowledge; minimum certification of State of Michigan S4 or D4 Water Operators licenses; minimum two-year experience as a water system operator or equivalent, involving chemical analysis activities; valid Michigan driver's license and be able to travel within the St. Johns area; possess and/or be eligible to obtain Commercial Driver's License within (6) months of employment; participate in to random drug-alcohol program; able to perform heavy lifting; able to work in extreme weather conditions.
